The Last Supper
The famous mural was done in tempera on the plaster wall of the Convent of Santa Maria delle Grazie, Milan. Da Vinci was commissioned by the Duke of Milan abt. 1495, to depict the scene described in the Scriptures in the gospel of John 13:21, when Jesus told his disciples that one would betray him. Very little of the original painting remains after 520+ years, however reproductions varying in color and quality are available.
