Norman Rockwell's painting for the Ladies Home Journal cover published in April, 1928.
This Ladies' Home Journal cover in some ways resembles one which Rockwell painted for the Post several years later. This earlier example is the more successful of the two despite the fact that, with the couple literally seated on a globe, it has an allegorical slant of the sort that often led Rockwell astray. This cover succeeds, and has great charm, because these young people are so crisply observed. The subject matter is sentimental, but the treatment of the figures is almost matter of fact, which prevents the picture from becoming too sugary.
