Settling an Argument
Norman Rockwell's painting for the Literary Digest cover, June 24, 1922.
It is Literary Digest itself that has provided these two old men-amateur philosophers walking in the footsteps of Flaubert's Bouvard et Pecuchet-with their bone of contention. Rockwell has given this painting a fake Old Master look, something he would never have done and this been intended for the Post (though it's easy enough to imagine him painting a variant on this theme for the Post).
