Before and After

Norman Rockwell - Before and After

Also called "Vote for Casey", Norman Rockwell painted this for the Saturday Evening Post Cover for November 8, 1958. Commentary: For the most part Rockwell painted election covers only in years when the presidency was at stake. In 1958, however, he made an exception and offered Post readers this study of an exhausted candidate for local office in his hour of defeat. Most of the humor derives from the contrast between the candidate's present demeanor and his smiling likeness on the poster behind him.
