WALKING TO CHURCH

Norman Rockwell

1953

The Saturday Evening Post'‍s April 4, 1953 cover, painted by Norman Rockwell, this painting is called "Walking to Church". A family strolls down the city sidewalk, Bibles in hand, wearing their Sunday best. The scene was based on a street in Bennington, Vermont. Rockwell had to paint another version of this painting, when the Post requested a church be visible in the painting. Norman had to repaint the painting after the Post requested that a church be visible. He therefore added the church steeple in the second version of the painting.
