THE CONNOISSEUR

Norman Rockwell

1962

Norman Rockwell's painting for the Saturday Evening Post cover for January 13, 1962, also called "Abstract and Concrete". The contrast between the well groomed gentleman and the disorder in the abstract painting is what makes it one of Rockwell's most memorable paintings. "The painting is the style of Jackson Pollock but was in fact painted by Rockwell himself. Under the assumed name, he entered it in a local art show; it won first prize."
